Alex has fifteen years’ experience as a practising architect, chartered with the ARB and RIBA. His work covers a wide range of project types and sizes — from an award-winning interior and amenity design, to the renovation of an industrial complex and a mission church, a 180-unit residential development in Hammersmith, a hotel in India, multiple residential developments and landscape design competitions from his time working in Berlin.
 
He believes good buildings are honest about how they’re made, expressing their tectonics and materiality. His approach is to assess the site and first to keep and reimagine rather than start with demolition — this is both out of environmental responsibility and to tap into the life and sense of place existing buildings already have. He has consistently secured planning consent on his projects and has a track record of delivering to programme and budget.
 
Alongside his project work, Alex has tutored at the Welsh School of Architecture and contributed to research on the question of value in architecture — an interest he’s followed further into the study of economics, social economics and the value of design.
 
He’s equally comfortable working with private and commercial clients, local authorities and community groups. He designs from the macro to the micro, from the massing to the detail, working closely with the project team throughout, testing ideas alongside clients to draw out the potential in every brief and site, from first sketch to finished building.
